Lana Elkins Named CSWE Track Chair

Faculty member Lana Hart Elkins has been selected to serve as a track chair for the Educational Outcomes Assessment Track with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Her term will begin in January 2025 and continue through December 2027.

As a track chair, Elkins will play a pivotal role in shaping content for the CSWE Annual Conference. Responsibilities include soliciting and reviewing conference proposals, engaging track members and fostering collaboration among social work education professionals.

Elkins joined the College of Social Work in 2018 and has contributed significantly to competency-based education, assessment and compliance with CSWE accreditation standards. She also teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses and has championed wellness initiatives as a university Wellness Ambassador.

Elkins holds a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina and is pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Practice and Innovation. She is an active volunteer and leader in the social work profession, serving as a CSWE Site Visitor, ASWB item writer and a member of the Program Accreditation and Curriculum Development committee for BPD.

“I'm honored and excited to take on this role in shaping high-quality educational programming and networking opportunities at CSWE’s Annual Program Meeting “, said Elkins. “Attended annually by more than 3000 social work education professionals, this year's conference theme is ‘It’s Time to Act: Championing Disability Justice and Disability Joy in Social Work’. This theme is particularly meaningful to me given my practice experience as an advocate for people with disabilities in SC.”

Dean Teri Browne says the selection of Elkins reflects her outstanding commitment to social work.

“This appointment highlights Lana’s exceptional leadership in social work education. Her dedication to advancing competency-based learning will strengthen the profession and benefit students nationwide.”

Conference proposals are now being accepted for review through February 9, 2025, for consideration of presentations at the October 23-26 2025 APM in Denver. (Link it to https://www.cswe.org/events-meetings/2025-annualconference/proposals/)
