Doeffinger to give colloquium talk

Join us when Dr. Tess Doeffinger (The Citadel) presents the next geography colloquium on September 27, at 3:30 p.m., in Callcott 201. The title of her talk is "Coastal Adaptation in the Sea Islands: A Historical Pathways Analysis for Folly Beach, SC."

DeBoom paper recognized

Meredith DeBoom was awarded the Virginie Mamadouh Outstanding Research Award from the Political Geography Specialty Group of the AAG for her article, "Climate Necropolitics", in the Annals of the American Association of Geographers. This award recognizes an article that “makes an innovative, original contribution to the conceptual and/or methodological embrace of political geography.”

 

Malkoc wins award to dissertation research

Bianca Malkoc was awarded a Field Study Award from the Cultural and Political Ecology (CAPE) Specialty Group of the AAG. The $750 award will support her preliminary dissertation research on the geopolitical ecology of shipping at the Port of Los Angeles.

Eramus Mundus scolarship to geography grad

Kate Barnwell, a 2023 geography graduate, has been awarded an Eramus Mundus scholarship to work on a joint master's degree in sustainable forest and nature management at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Padua.

Susan Cutter doubly honored

Susan Cutter has been elected to both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and to the National Academy of Sciences this spring. Already a fellow at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, she is the first faculty member at USC to achieve all three honors.

 

Flach receives fellowship

Grad student Jessica Flach was recently announced as the winner of the Walker Institute's  Donald J. Puchala Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship is awarded to graduate students whose research projects focus on international relations theory or international institutions. Congratulations, Jessica!

Thornton receives dissertation award

Grad student Jill Thornton has been selected by the AAG's Political Geography Specialty Group  to receive this year’s Alexander Murphy Dissertation Enhancement Award  for her research on evangelical and missionary geopolitics. Way to go, Jill!

 

DeBoom honored

Meredith DeBoom was named one of the 2024 McCausland Fellows. The McCausland is the most prestigious faculty fellowship for early-career faculty in USC's College of Arts & Sciences. Congratulations, Meredith!
